Florence grocery store receives $250,000 grant

The new grocery store in Florence, Pat's Foods, received a $250,000 grant Tuesday.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation and Community came out to celebrate the new store arrival.

The store is owned by Joe and Ben Campioni who have other locations in the northern Upper Peninsula.

The state grant was made possible by the county's TIF district advantages.

Tuesday, Wisconsin Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch spoke about the store's economic impact on the area.

"It's amazing for some communities in Wisconsin to imagine for a moment the idea of not having a grocery store. Here in Florence, that is a reality," reported Kleefisch. "This grocery store went out of business seven years ago. Since then, they haven't really had that community hub, that place to get their needs and groceries every day, their fresh produce, their fresh meat."

Pat's Foods has an estimated opening date of June 26.
