Michigan DNR offers young hunter workshops

Young hunters can get instructions on use of a variety of weaponry and equipment this summer during a series of workshops at state-operated shooting ranges.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is conducting Demonstration Days programs at ranges in Ortonville, Pontiac Lake, Rose Lake and Sharonville.

Participants can try rifles, shotguns, muzzleloaders, archery equipment and crossbows with help from range officers and hunter education instructors. They can use the DNR's hunting simulator and get tips from conservation officers will explain what to expect in the field.

The Mentored Youth Hunting program is designed to introduce children under age 10 to hunting and fishing.
