      Teen rescued from ice floe

Authorities say a 14-year-old boy has been rescued form an ice floe at a marina in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

A U.S. Coast Guard crew and a U.S. Customs and Border Protection boat team responded Sunday afternoon at George Kemp Downtown Marina in Sault Ste. Marie.

The boy was reported to be drifting on an ice floe about 20 feet from shore. The Customs and Border Protection team was conducting training in the area, and threw a rope to the boy to prevent him from drifting further. The Coast Guard picked him up shortly afterward.

Officials say the boy was wearing shorts and a T-shirt, since air temperatures were relatively warm. The water temperature was 34 degrees.

The boy was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
