The Iron County Medical Center in Crystal Falls is expanding to include a new dementia wing. Itâ??s all part of a $10 million expansion to include an entire addition of occupancy units designed specifically for patients with memory loss issues.
Dementia training for the centerâ??s staff was done on Thursday by educators from New Jersey. With the new addition, administrators want to ensure their staff will be well-equipped to care for these new patients. â??We noted that the health care facilities have 80 percent dementia now and they need comprehensive training,â?? said trainer, Sandra Stimson. â??So we're going over everything from wandering and elopement and how to use good communication skills.â??
The new dementia wing will feature close to double the amount of occupancy space for patients with memory issues and is expected to open in March.
