A 10-year-old boy has died and another 10 year old is in critical condition following a crash between a pickup truck and their ATV in Marinette County Sunday morning, deputies from the Marinette County Sheriff's office said.
The crash happened just before 10 a.m. at the intersection of Rueff Rd. and Creek Rd. in the town of Middle Inlet. According to initial investigation, the two 10 year olds were headed west on Rueff Rd. on their four-wheeler and failed to stop at the stop sign. A pickup truck struck them. One of the boys was pronounced dead at the scene from head and internal injuries. The other boy was treated and transported to Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette by Crivitz Rescue and Bay Area Medical Center Paramedics. He was later transferred to a Green Bay hospital in critical condition. The driver of the pickup truck, a 60-year-old male from Green Bay, Wisc., and a 57-year-old passenger, also of Green Bay, were not injured.
Names of the deceased and others involved are being withheld at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the Marinette County Sheriff's office, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Marinette County Coroner George Smith.
The sheriff's office was assisted by the Wisconsin DNR wardens and state patrol troopers, Crivitz and Wausaukee Rescue Squads and Middle Inlet fire departments.
