The year of 2012 marks the 100 year anniversary and celebration of the Girl Scouts.
Girl Scouts came together and celebrated at the Iron County Museum in Iron River on Monday. The program was originally started on March 12 in 1912 by Julia Gordon Low. The celebration honors the Girl Scouts and its last 100 years, with a promise for the next 100 years.
"Julia Gordon Low started Girl Scouts 100 years ago," said Jane Markkanen of the Girl Scouts. "She came home from Savannah and said we will have Girl Scouts for girls in the United States and started the program."
As part of the celebration, there is a display at the Iron County Museum that encompasses the past 100 years with uniforms, books, and badges.
