A bigger, better 4th of July

This year's Fourth of July celebration in Ishpeming will be bigger and better than ever, according to organizers.

The parade starts at 10:30 a.m., and follows the normal route despite construction in the downtown area. Around noon, everyone is invited to a family picnic at Al Quaal Recreation Area.

Thousands of people are expected to come out for the big celebration in a small community.

"It's bigger than it was last year, we have double the amount of vendors," said Elizabeth Peterson of the Greater Ishpeming-Negaunee Chamber of Commerce. "We have a circus that will be here with two showings, one at 2:00 p.m. and one at 4:30 p.m., and so we're just really excited."

Tickets for the Big Top Circus can be picked up in advance at the Chamber of Commerce or local businesses, and they'll be available at the tent.

The rest of the evening includes a fly-over by two F-16s, and of course, fireworks.
