A new city marketplace is underway to replace Escanabaâ??s old farmerâ??s market structure, said officials at the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority.
The new pavilion will provide some protection from the weather as well as provide some new amenities.
The marketplace is estimated to cost $532,000, but the DDA is looking into grants and private contributions.
The current plans include storage, a kitchen and public restrooms.
â??We want to build a structure that can support the farmerâ??s market but at the same time be a multi-use facility,â?? said DDA executive director Ed Legault. â??But, itâ??ll be a place that we can definitely make some memories downtown.â??
The current structure does not provide any protection from the elements, nor does it have the amenities the new structure is planning to have.
While plans are still in the drawing phase, the DDA is encouraging public comment: please call Ed Legault at (906) 789-8696 or email firstname.lastname@example.org .
