      A Rapid River woman faces embezzlement charge involving assisted living facility

      Jana Chaperon, the 39-year-old Rapid River woman accused of embezzlement of an assisted living facility, was arraigned in court on Wednesday.

      Chaperon was arraigned in Schoolcraft County circuit court. She was charged with one count of embezzlement of between $50,000 and $100,000. She was also charged with using a computer to commit a crime.

      Chaperon was the director of Woodland Meadows Assisted Living Facility, but resigned her post last summer before the facility was sold by Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital. The embezzlement charge carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

      Her sentencing date is scheduled for July 25.
