A special K-9 demonstration for NMU students

Criminal Justice students at Northern Michigan University had a guest presentation from officers in the Lansing Police Department, as well as a K-9 unit. Officers discussed what life was like on the police force from their experiences. The star of the presentation, however, was K-9 Officer Recon. Recon sniffed out a training pistol that had been hidden under a seat cushion and showed the students how he can bring down a suspect.

"Being a police officer, you don't really know what it's like until you actually get out and do it, and what we want to do is give them an idea of what it's like to actually be a police officer--the challenges that you face, the rewards that you receive from being a police officer, and what a great career it is," said Officer Norm Naimy of the LPD.

The officers have been giving presentations to students at NMU for the past few days. The Lansing Police Department is also hiring which was part of the reason for the visit to the U.P.
