The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees were picketing Wednesday. They are concerned about the outsourcing of jobs.
Six out of eight county maintenance and housekeeping employees were laid off due to less work and a decrease in funding, explained Nora Viau, Director of Administration and Finance for Delta County.
The Monday following the lay offs, the county subcontracted those positions, said officials at AFSCME. One of the companies used was an out of county one, SCI Cleaning and Maintenance, from Marquette.
"We want the county to bring our people back, let them do their jobs and quit spending our money outside this county," said Christine Pepin, President of AFSCME Local 2755.
AFSCME plans to be present to voice their concerns at the next board meeting.
