Alger County Animal Shelter holds 3rd annual fundraiser

The Alger County Animal Shelter in Munising is holding their 3rd Annual Cutest Critter Contest at the Peoples State Bank of Munising.

The Alger County Animal Shelter houses and cares for unwanted animals in their county, as well as animals that are brought in from other counties or downstate Michigan.

The contest consists of a bake sale, pet photo contest and raffle which all help to raise money to offset what it costs the non-profit shelter to spay and neuter, feed, and treat the animals.

The shelter says they can always use extra resources, but the medical expenses for the animals are undoubtedly their priciest expense.

"It really helps bring in money to help pay the bills. Our biggest expense is for our vet; needless to say our cats have to be fixed," says shelter coordinator, Carole Murke.

The event is from at 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, December 6.

Last year the shelter raised $1,000, and their goal this year is to raise at least $1200.
