The Village of Alpha will be celebrating its centennial with three days of activities, starting this Thursday.
The Centennial Celebration kicks off July 3 at 11:30 a.m. with the opening ceremony. Thursday's events are focused on the history of Alpha over the last 100 years, with a beard contest, nail pounding contest, and pie eating contest, followed by the Alpha Centennial Revue in the evening.
"I think it's important that we do celebrate these sorts of things as a community," says Stuart Creel of the Centennial Committee. "To understand that what actually makes a community great, and it's people coming together."
Friday's events include a parade, live music and children's games with Fourth of July fireworks that night. Saturday's festivities include an antique car show, more live music, and will conclude the Centennial Celebration with another firework show that evening.
