Portage Health in Hancock has announced that it will be adding a new race to its annual Canal Run this July.
A half marathon race will be added to the 38th annual Canal Run. The 13.1 mile race will start just north of McLain State Park on Koskelas Road. The ten mile and five mile races will also still be part of the Canal Run.
Race coordinators say they added the half marathon to encourage more people to participate in the race.
"It's a very community-centered event, so about 80 percent of the participants are local," said Race Director Angela Luskin. "So, we're trying to pull some maybe from the Marquette area and Iron Mountain, come up for the half marathon."
There is still time to sign up for the race on July 20. For more information on how you can register for the race, visit the Canal Run website.
