It's the 25th anniversary for a popular winter sport in Alger County. The annual Michigan Ice Fest begins Friday afternoon in Munising.
The event usually brings in about 400 climbers to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore.
Organizers say it's a great opportunity for people of all ages to come out and experience the sport, even if they've never done it before.
"The exciting thing this year is that we're offering kids classes. We're having some fun competitions," stated Bill Thompson, Ice Fest organizer. "There's a gear loft at the Historical Society, so it's a great opportunity; even if people don't want to climb, they can come out and watch. It's really fascinating."
The event also brings in world class climbers who will share their knowledge through instructional slideshows and demonstrations.
