The 37th annual Lake Antoine Classic was held today in Iron Mountain. The run includes a five mile walk and run,15K run or bike, 2 mile run and shorter fun runs and walks for kids. The run at Lake Antoine County Park benefits Special Olympics. Proceeds go to help fund athletic programs for special Olympians.
"Without this event a lot of the sports and activities that the special Olympians participate in wouldn't be able to happen," Race Committee Member Katie Maxon said. "Their basketball program is directly funded through this race as well as a lot of the trips down state and some of the other activities that the special Olympians participate in."
Organizers expected that more than 300 people participated in the run. Every runner took off at the same time at 10AM Eastern Time. Registration cost anywhere from $20 to $35.
