Artists make chainsaw carvings at State Fair

One Upper Peninsula couple is carving up some unique artwork at the U.P. State Fair.

Marie Serafin and Jon Mykkanen have been doing word carvings at the fair for the past five years. The work with full blocks of wood and carve them into ornate sculptures, completely finished with paints. They say they really enjoy working in front of a crowd and getting to know the people.

"We really like to interact with people and I encourage people to go out and take your chainsaw, just like I did, and find out that, maybe I really am creative there underneath and I never knew it," says Mykkanen.

The couple is the owners of their own business called Woodworks Chainsaw Carving. They'll be at the fair until Sunday working on unique pieces for display on the fairgrounds.
