Weâ??ll be seeing a lot more aircraft taking off from the Ford Airport runways, thanks to more expansion of services at the companies located there. â??Kubick Aviation has expanded its services to now offer charter and shuttle air services here at the Ford Airport,â?? said Carrie Bartel, community relations. â??Through the help of MaxAir, we now have available UP North Airways.â??
UP North Airways started up their propellers and got this charter service flying high. â??We had our first scheduled shuttle service to Lansing on September 24, and it went amazing,â?? Bartel said. Another company, IFR, or Integrated First Response, has been operating at their hangar for about a year but just recently expanded to their location on River Avenue in Iron Mountain. â??Weâ??ve been operating also the ground ambulance service to greater Dickinson County for just over 60 days, and the response has been just overwhelming,â?? Bartel added.
And the nearby Ford Airport is seeing some growth, too, as they recently were the recipients of an over $13,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration for general improvements. Their motto â??Fly from Nearbyâ?? is especially significant and helpful for U.P. residents who may not have to travel as far anymore to get the right flight they need, and that helps to make this area someplace special.
