In the state of Michigan, each year there are over 2,000 bicycle related deaths or injuries caused by cars. In light of this, the Michigan State Police have made May â??bicycle safety awareness month.â??
The MSP Gladstone Post provided a few tips to help keep our community safe. Cyclists should always wear a properly fitting helmet and light colored or florescent clothing. They recommend bikes ride on the right side of the road with the flow of traffic.
â??With the anticipated warm weather here in the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan State Police just wants to remind the members of our community to be safe while out riding their bicycles,â?? said Community Service Trooper Dale Hongisto.
To help this cause, the Gladstone Post has offered to check community membersâ?? helmets to ensure a proper fit.
