Big turnout expected for 57th annual Mackinac Bridge Walk

More than 40,000 people are expected to make the annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk.

Governor Rick Snyder will lead the walkers across the 5 mile span starting at 7 a.m. on September 1. Walkers can start across the bridge up until 11 a.m., and buses are available to bring walkers from Mackinaw City to St. Ignace for $5.

To ensure safety of all participants, Michigan State Police will again be conducting searches of purses, bags and backpacks for all walkers. If the contents of your purses, bags or backpacks are not essential, MSP asks that walkers leave their items in their vehicles to avoid delays.

"Submitting your bag for a quick search or leaving it in your vehicle will help ensure the walk is saef and enjoyable for all participants," says Mackinac Bridge Authority Executive Secretary Bob Sweeney.

All the details about the Mackinac Bridge Walk are available at their website.
