Ahead of the annual Bike Jam event in downtown Marquette, racers made their way to the Bike Expo at the Marquette Commons Friday. The Expo serves as the place to register for all of the races planned during the three-day event. It also gives riders a chance to pick up any last minute gear they need for their bikes. Nine local vendors are set up in the Commons. Organizers say the Expo and the Bike Jam are a great way to bring the biking community together.
"It's a celebration of bicycling. Marquette has got amazing bike paths. The city of Marquette goes out of its way; the roads are beautiful, there's plenty of scenery almost every where you go," said Greg Potvin, Bike Jam organizer. "I guess our idea with it is that we'd like to get everybody together, and this is a three-day festival to get everyone together in a celebration of biking in Marquette."
The first races for the Bike Jam started at 6 p.m. in downtown Marquette. Events for the Bike Jam wrap up on Sunday with family-friendly biking tour of Presque Isle.
