Officials are considering an idea that would create a bike trail along the southern part of Michigan's Upper Peninsula as part of a broader trail plan. The EagleHerald reports Dickinson County Commissioner Barbara Kramer, on Tuesday evening, discussed the proposal with officials in Menominee County.
Plans are in the works at the state level for a hiking and biking trail from Belle Isle Park in Detroit to Ironwood on the Wisconsin boundary in the western Upper Peninsula. The state has been considering a route along the northern portion of the Upper Peninsula.
Kramer wants officials to consider a southern route that would go through Iron, Gogebic, Dickinson, Menominee, Delta, Schoolcraft and Mackinac counties. The southern trail route also might be able to be used by all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles.
