After almost two years and $600,000 dollars spent, the Bishop Baraga Chapel in Marquette's St. Peters Cathedral is complete.
The Church says the cathedral was built as a final resting place to honor Marquette's first bishop, particularly after he was honored personally by the Catholic Church.
"We created the chapel once Bishop Baraga was named venerable in the process for canonization," says Monsignor Michael Steber. "It was appropriate that his body be in a special place where his remains could be venerated."
The Church is planning a special blessing ceremony for the chapel during Baraga Days on October 18.
