Bishop Baraga fundraiser offers chance to win a Corvette

The Bishop Baraga Association of Marquette is giving you a shot at winning a 40th anniversary Corvette.

The group is raising money for the new Venerable Bishop Baraga chapel being built at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette. The Corvette up for raffle is a 1993 ruby red 40th anniversary edition with 43,000 miles on it.

Organizers who put the raffle together say this is a way to help honor Marquette's first bishop.

"When you think of the Upper Peninsula, you think of Bishop Baraga. We have Baraga, Michigan named after our first bishop, so this celebrates not only the bishop, the first bishop of Marquette. You not only celebrate the person, but you can get yourself a nice car, too, if you win," said Fr. Ben Paris of the Bishop Baraga Association.

Tickets for the drawing are $50 each and only 1,000 tickets will be sold. They can be purchased from the U.P. Catholic Credit Union locations. The drawing will be held on June 1.
