Pets are known as people's best friend because no matter what, they show unconditional love and are truly there by our sides through the ups and downs.
Saturday, many pet owners honored their furry friends by getting them blessed at the Delta Animal Shelter in Escanaba.
The custom is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures.
"We just found out that he [Max] has terminal lung cancer," said Sue Bougie, who brought in her 11-year-old Sharpei mix to be blessed. "It just would make me feel better."
Those that attended said Reverend Laura Woodworth from St. Stephen's Episcopal Church made the ceremony very personal by blessing each pet individually.
