Body of downstate man found in Lake Superior

The body of an Eastpointe, Michigan man who went missing Thursday night around 11 p.m., was found by the Keweenaw County Sheriff's Office Friday afternoon.

The sheriff's office said 48-year-old Paul Francis Lempke was camping with a friend at the Kauppi Resort and Campground on the Gay-Lac La Belle Road, north of Gay in Sherman Township.

Lempke went for a walk and was last seen walking along a break wall near the docks at the resort.

Superior Search and Rescue, along with a DNR aircraft, helped in the search.

Lempke's body was recovered from Lake Superior near the docks, at 4 p.m.

The Keweenaw County Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the cause of death.
