Bounty sets anchor in Union Bay

The Bounty, a tall ship, dropped anchor in Union Bay Monday. The ship is on its way to Duluth where it will form a flotilla with seven other similar ships.

The Duluth event began Sept. and will continued through Aug. 3.

The fleet of international and domestic vessels will be racing to six cities in the U.S. and Canada, the Duluth stop is Lake Superior TMs only port of call for the Great Lakes United Tall Ships Challenge 2010.

The Bounty is a replica of original HMS Bounty, and was built in 1960 for the MGM movie version of Mutiny on the Bounty, which starred Marlon Brando.

The ship was overhauled in 2006-2007 and returned to active service. Since summer 2007 has been a regular at tall ship events in England, Europe, up and down both coasts of the USA, and the Galapagos Islands.
