      Business owner recognized for philanthropy

Alongside the TV6 Be The Change initiative, we are featuring some emerging leaders in local communities who are on a mission to serve those around them.

Over the years, Joe Burdick has led his Marquette company, Matthews Floor Fashions, to an active role in the community. Burdick's philanthropies run the gamut from weekly cancer benefits to replacing the showers at the Baraga city gym.

Burdick says he feels it is necessary to give back to a community that has given so much to him and his business.

"There's a lot of other people going through tough times, bad breaks," said Burdick, "and I really believe that if something turned around and it was me or my family or my friend that the community would rally around me, too, and I just want to show my appreciation for that thought and do it for others."

In the future, Burdick plans to use the Matthews Floor Fashion Facebook page to highlight upcoming local charity events.
