Bay Cliff Health Camp will offer a bereavement camp for children for the third year in a row.
Camp Star is a grief camp designed for children ages 8-16 that have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, friend or loved one. It is provided by the Upper Peninsula Childrenâ??s Bereavement Network. Twenty-five campers will participate in traditional camp activities August 8-10 as well as activities combined with grief education and emotional support.
â??Research has shown us that if we do not grab these kids at this grieving stage, they will self-medicate, they will become addicted to other things, their grades will drop, they drop out of school and we do not want thatâ?? said Jean Hetrick, who is part of the Board of Directors for the Upper Peninsula Childrenâ??s Bereavement Network. â??We do not want them to have those at risk behaviors.â??
Camp Star is free for all campers and runs entirely on donations. For more information about Camp Star, visit their website.
