One bag of canned goods can go a long way in providing a meal to a hungry family.
The 30th Annual TV6 Canathon is in full swing in Delta County, and radio host Mike Flavor from WYKX-FM, along with volunteers, are asking people to help out.
"Let's face it, the way the economy is, the way the job market is, I mean people are losing their jobs more and more every day. It's just really sad to know that there are people out there that can't afford a meal," said Flavor.
They will be standing in front of Elmer's County Food Market, Super One Foods in Escanaba, and Super Value in Gladstone. You can drop off any canned goods, purchase a pre-made bag filled with non-perishables, or make a monetary donation.
"Well, every little bit helps to end hunger and make sure everyone in our county, all of our friends and neighbors, have the food that is necessary for their families,"said Ralph Hansen, Salvation Army.
They will be collecting items until Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
"Then on Wednesday is when we bring out the big guns. We will have a little bit of competition between the morning show and afternoon show to see how many people will come out to donate," Flavor said.
All donations will go to help stock the pantries of the local Salvation Army and St. Vincent De Paul Society. They are hoping to raise more than 10,000 pounds of canned food.??
