Manistique High School was abuzz with activity Sunday. It was the 46th Annual CBC Telethon. The event is a massive fundraiser for the Bay Cliff Health Camp, the American Cancer Society, and a different local charity each year. This year's local charity is a split between Long Distance Medical Transportation and the Manistique Senior Center and Coalition for Safe and Stable Housing.Hundreds of donors called in to send money or to place bids on auction items, and even more donated online. Live performances were streamed on local television. The school was filled with family-friendly games and activities. This year, the CBC chose to honor ten-year-old Daniel Vicochea, who spent seven weeks at Bay Cliff, by telling the story of his great experiences at the camp. Bay Cliff relies on donations from events like the telethon. Thanks to Bay Cliff, Daniel received speech and occupational therapy that he could not have gotten at home."It's awesome! I had a lot of fun and I met new friends," said Daniel.Daniel says he plans on going back to Bay Cliff this summer. The goal for the telethon is to raise at least $48,000. The CBC volunteers will not know exactly how much was donated for a few more days.
