People were not the only ones celebrating Independence Day.
Dogs, with the help of their owners, enjoyed a one or two mile trek along Lakeshore Boulevard in Marquette Thursday morning.
This year, the Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter held its annual Sunrise Doggy Dash. Over 40 people and their four-legged friends participated.
"It's just a nice thing to do on the 4th. I'm a runner. I'm trying to get him to lose some weight and get him involved, plus it's for a good cause," said Allecia Filibeck, dog owner.
All of the money raised from the event goes towards Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter.
