Celebrity golf outing scores a hole-in-one for charity

The 2nd annual U.P. Celebrity Golf Classic to raise money for the Beacon House in Marquette raised twice as much money as last year, organizers report.

The two-day event that took place on June 27 and 28 raised $108,000 for the Beacon House. The charity event, involving former NFL coach and Iron Mountain native Steve Mariucci, added the Heritage Course to the Greywalls golf outing, held at the Marquette Golf Club.

"We knew by increasing the sponsorship levels we would also have to deliver an even bigger and more exciting event," said Sue LeGalley, UPCGC event chair. "The feedback so far has been that we overwhelmingly delivered just that. Our players and celebrities loved the Match Party catered by Elizabeth's Chop House and were equally awed by the Marquette Golf Club's first class operations and catering."

The net amount raised by the celebrity golf outing is equal to about one-third of the Beacon House's annual operating costs. Guest contributions and other fundraising efforts help fill the remaining two-thirds of funding.

Planning for the third annual event, scheduled for June 26 & 27 of 2013, will begin this September.
