A group of five Northern Michigan University students are performing a twist on an old classic this week. Pinocchio is being presented all week at NMU, including three shows to the general public on Friday and Saturday.
The troupe members play multiple roles in the 50-minute performance. On Tuesday, kindergarten through second grade students from Sawyer Elementary and pre-schoolers from Discovery Central got to see the show.
The costumes and set are simpler than a typical musical, and the show includes some Italian influences on the traditional Pinocchio story, according to cast member Taylor Kulju. She also explained the appropriate audience for the show.
"Children but also adults," said Kulju. "It has humor and good morals for every age group, so really, it just runs the gamut. Anyone who wants to enjoy themselves, they can come."
Performances for the general public will be held on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for the general public and $5 for children and students. They are available through all NMU ticket outlets. Visit www.nmu.edu/tickets for more information.
