It was Christmas in July this weekend at the J.W. Wells State Park in Cedar River.
Dozens of campers showed their holiday spirit with decorations, lights, inflatables and other favors. Friday night included caroling and even a visit from Santa Clause. Saturday brought a bunch of activities for those at the campgrounds from crafts for kids, gingerbread house construction, cookies and cocoa. Many campers plan their vacations around the Christmas in July Weekend.
â??I just love Christmas, so when I can celebrate it twice a year it is a lot more funâ?? said Kathy Ruokoainen, a camper.
â??I know people think that we are crazy and do not understand how we fit all of these decorations in our campers, but we doâ?? said Mary Jo Paris, a camper. â??I actually forgot two totes of decorations at home.â??
The decorated campers will also be judged for competition. Christmas in July gives people a chance to enjoy the culture surrounding the holiday in the summer sun.
