Five hundred kids were given backpacks and school supplies by the Silver Creek Church in Chocolay Township Saturday. Kids lined the hallway as they picked out pens, pencils, and folders.
It was all a part of the church's partnership with National Night Out. The event is used to help law enforcement and members of the community get to know and look out for each other.
This is Silver Creek C hurch's sixth year participating in the event.
"With today's turnout, we can see there are a lot of people who need those things, and it's our pleasure to be able to give back to the community and to tell them that we love them and care about them through this event," said Pastor Kevin Taylor.
Kids also got a chance to pick out clothes and accessories.
One hundred volunteers from the church helped put on games, cooked food and provided musical entertainment.
