Clearing the way for a new gas station

A Keweenaw Bay Indian Community gas station in Marquette Township is one step closer to reality.

Associated Constructors began the demolition process on the old Los Tres Amigos restaurant Monday morning. They hope to have the structure demolished and cleared by the end of the week. A spokesman from the tribe says they chose to demolish the building because it contained asbestos and lead and it would cost too much to renovate. The next step? Finalizing the gas station's design and passing the land trust application. The tribe doesn't know how long it will take to get the application approved, so there's no word on when the gas station would open.
