In recent years, Michigan lawmakers have been pushing courts to re-engineer their judicial systems and consolidate resources. The current legislation will result in the loss of one judge to attrition, however, the cuts won't take effect until a judge retires.
Circuit Court Judge Jennifer Mazzuchi informed Marquette County's board that one method of saving will be made by switching providers of their public law library. The switch is estimated to save $12,000 per year.
"Weâ??re really not sure how that will fit into the measurement that the state will do this year," explained Mazzuchi, "and whether there would be recommendations for further cuts or not to address the counties. We really don't know what to expect."
Mazzuchi said by January 2014, their final plans must be submitted to the State Administrator.
