Marquette Area Public Schools recently went through some funding cuts, and in a time of need, a community has stepped up.
Around 200 people showed support for the Marquette Senior High School's athletic department in the first annual Redmen Cash Bash held at the Marquette Regional History Center. Dozens of community sponsors donated merchandise and auction items.
Officials say the proceeds will benefit all of the sports.
"It's not fun to go through budget cuts, but one of the positives that have come out of this is this great community event," said Jamie Tuma, a co-organizer from the Booster's Club. "We've had so many businesses step up and donate, and our community came together in this time of need."
A big chunk of the proceeds will be used toward student transportation for various sporting events.
