Local youth on their way to a mission trip this summer got help from the community this weekend. Twelve of them will stay in inner city Philadelphia and help struggling families.
They held a rummage sale at the First Presbyterian Church in Marquette to help with travel expenses. Thousands of items were on the table. The group raised $1,500.
"We want to learn about how it is to live off food stamps for a whole day and what it's like to go to the soup kitchens," said Sarah Farnsworth. "I'm looking forward to being in a different city, so it'll be different than Marquette, seeing different people, staying with the homeless and seeing what that's like, just a new experience," said Liesel Demeuse.
The week-long trip is slated for June.
