Congressman Dan Benishek met small business leaders on Friday during a stop in M arquette.
The congressman is wrapping up what he calls his '100 Businesses in 100 Days' tour. Business and local government leaders exchanged feedback on variety of topics, including taxes and health care. Some voiced criticism of the subsidized air service at smaller U.P. airports, saying it negatively impacts Sawyer I nternational which does not receive federal subsidies.
Benishek says he understands but has to be mindful of the other areas that he represents.
"I represent nearly half the state of Michigan," said Benishek. "We have varied concerns throughout the district, and it's good to go to different parts to hear what their concerns are because you have to balance what you do over a large area."
The congressman also visited the Blueberry Festival downtown before heading home to Crystal Falls. He will be continuing his tour on Monday downstate in Alpena.
