      Conservation Officers make drug bust

Two former Iron River men went to jail Wednesday on drug and a weapons charge. DNR Conservation Officers Jason Wicklund and Dave Painter made the arrests around 1 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Wicklund, the two officers were investigating a complaint about drug activity in the City of Iron River. The pair was patrolling the city when they stopped to talk with the two men. Wicklund says that's when he saw one of them had a gun in his pocket.

The two suspects were taken into custody without incident. Wicklund says both men were searched and marijuana was also found.

Iron County Sheriff's Deputies along with Iron River City Police, provided backup for the two Conservation Officers. Iron River Police discovered later the handgun was stolen. It was reported stolen on September 2.

Jason Wicklund has been a Conservation Officer for 10 years, Painter for 18 years.

Both suspects are currently in the Iron County Jail. One of the suspects was also wanted on a felony warrant out of Wisconsin. They're expected in Iron County Trial Court Thursday afternoon for their initial arraignment on the charges.

No names are being released until after their arraignment.
