A serious crash involving a car and two semi-trucks occurred early morning Thursday north of Amberg, WI.
Around 2:40 a.m., Marinette County Dispatch received calls of a crash at State Quarry Road and U.S. 141 north of Amberg. The Marinette County Sheriff's Office reports that investigation revealed that a north-bound car, driven by 26-year-old Andrew R. Kunna of Menasha, WI, crossed the center line and struck a south-bound semi-truck, driven by 48-year-old Brian Scott Herrala of Iron Mountain. The semi-truck fell onto its side and blocked the roadway. A northbound semi-truck, driven by 48-year-old Peter W. Johnson of Manitowoc, WI was unable to stop in time and drove through and over the overturned semi.
Kunna was seriously injured in the crash. The drivers of the semi-trucks were treated for non-life threatening injuries. All three were transported to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
Officials report that Kunna is under investigation for operating while intoxicated. The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and State Patrol.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted at the crash scene by Wisconsin State Patrol, Pembine Rescue Squad, Beacon Paramedics, Wausaukee, Amberg and Pembine Fire Departments and Marinette County Highway Commission.
