The City of Ishpeming announced the beginning of a project that will cause a detour for a portion of M-28 Business through the city.
The Partridge Creek Diversion project is the second phase of an $8.7 million investment to reroute Partridge Creek out from a mine shaft and into the city's storm sewer system. Officials say this will reduce the mercury loading to Deer Lake, allowing the Environmental Protection Agency to delist it as an area of concern.
Officials say that M-28 Business will be closed from Lakeshore Drive to Pine Street. The detour will take motorists traveling eastbound from M-28 to 2nd Street, then Bessemer to 3rd Street, then Cleveland to 4th Street, returning to M-28 Business at Division Street.
Work is expected to continue through late summer.
