      Crews respond to fire at Eagle Mills

      Building damaged in a fire at Eagle Mills

      Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. announced that a fire that occurred on Thursday at a Cliffs LS&I railroadâ??s track maintenance building at Eagle Mills was contained and fire departments from Negaunee Township and the City of Negaunee left the scene at 6:30 p.m.

      The building contained small equipment used to maintain the railroad tracks.

      An employee working in the area at the time of the fire, was evacuated safely and there were no injuries.

      The extent of the damage is undetermined at this time and the cause of the fire is under investigation. Railroad operations to and from the Tilden and Empire mines have not been impacted. -----------------------------------------------------------------

      Firefighters responded to the scene of a fire at Cliffs Natural Resources' Eagle Mills location in Marquette County.

      According to officials, one of the buildings at the Eagle Mills location caught fire on Thursday at around 2:45 p.m., with flames visibly coming from the roof.

      According to Cliffs Natural Resources, the fire occurred in a railroad track maintenance building. Officials say one employee was working in the area at the time, but that employee was safely evacuated.

      Cliffs says that railroad operations to and from the mine will continue as normal. There is no word on what caused the fire.
