      Crews respond to wildfire in Chocolay Township

      T he DNR said 10 acres of land was burned. The cause is still unknown.


      Crews reported to the scene of a wildfire on Friday morning that was initially reported as 30 acres in size.

      According to the Department of Natural Resources, crews responded to the fire off M-28 near Kawbawgam Road in Marquette County.

      The DNR reported that a perimeter had been created around the fire and the DNR aircraft was released from the scene shortly after 2 p.m.

      The fire was measured at around 10 acres in size. Crews are working on mopping up hot spots which is expected to take several hours

      The Chocolay Township Fire Department, Sands Township Fire Department, and DNR crews responded to the scene.

      There is no word yet on what started the fire.
