Thursday evening, celebrity couples, including our own Steve Asplund and his wife, Ann, hit the stage at the Forest Roberts Theatre at NMU for the first ever Dancing with the Stars Marquette County Style.
Out of eight couples, Jeremy Hansen and Alicia Frechette took home the mirrored ball trophy. However, every couple had a room full of support Thursday evening.
"Well, I have two really good friends in this, Sandy Kivela and Elizabeth Peterson. So I don't want to say who I'm voting for because I don't want either one of them to get mad at me," said Rene Allyn, spectator.
Dancing with the Stars Marquette County Style is the first fundraiser of its kind to happen locally, raising money for U.P. Hospice, and members of the community think it's great.
"I think it's awesome that something like this could be done for our community, and it's great to see such a great turnout," said Sherry Larson, spectator.
The community rallied together to support this cause and to see all of the couples do something they have never done before, taking on dance styles from the Cha Cha to Swing.
"Community members are really putting themselves out there to help the cause, to be there to support them and encourage them. It's just, it's really a great idea and great night," said Scot Fure, spectator.
Guests enjoyed live performances from several local talents.
The event raised at least $35,000 and there are plans for next year.
