Dart tournament planned to help Makayla

The Gwinn community is pulling together to help with medical expenses for a woman who suffered a brain aneurysm.

Eighteen-year-old Makayla Mayo is currently receiving treatment at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Happy Hour Bar in Gwinn has put together a dart tournament fundraiser to help her family.

On Saturday at 5 p.m. the community is welcome to come and compete in the tournament and have a chance at prizes donated by local businesses. Organizers say this is how the community pulls together to help one of its own.

"People just like to show their support for other people in the community," said Happy Hour Bar owner Tracy Johnson. "I mean, we only started this three weeks ago and we have donations from Gwinn, Marquette, Munising, we're going to have some good food here and I just think it's a good cause to help Makayla and her family out to get through this."

The tournament starts at 5 p.m. on Saturday, right after the Gwinn Fun Days event. A Facebook page has also been created for Makayla.
