The date has been set for the closure of Sawyer International Airport's air traffic control tower.
Sawyer International officials say the control tower will close on May 5, 2013. The tower is one of 149 towers nationwide that are closing as a result of budget cuts to the Federal Aviation Administration.
"While this was not the desired outcome, business will continue as usual," said Airport Manager Duane DuRay.
Officials say that the tower closure will not result in an airport closure. DuRay added that Sawyer International Airport anticipates the addition of flights in June as American Airlines adds a mid-day and two Saturday flight options.
