Dedicated volunteer nominated by lifelong friend

For many awards, nominations are required. And when nominations for the Senior Volunteer of the Year Award for Michigan were being accepted, State Trooper Stacy Rasanen knew she needed to nominate Yvonne Clark.

Trooper Rasanen says 78-year-old Clark truly deserved the award. She says Clark has been thrown many curve balls in life, yet she has perservered through it all.

Rasanen also says she's learned a lot from Clark, and says Clark is like a mother to her.

"She puts the community before herself, and she makes sure that those jobs are done. I've also learned, too, to be a good volunteer to your community, because your community definitely benefits from that," said Rasanen.

Clark accepted her award in Lansing at the 2013 Governor's Service Awards Ceremony on Tuesday.
